Adult Social Events

Social events held throughout the year for Jackson parents.  These gatherings are a great opportunity to build community and friendships.  Chairperson coordinate the event details and collects registration.

 

Appreciation Lunch

Held in May, the Appreciation Lunch is an opportunity to thank all of our PTA volunteers and Jackson staff. Volunteers assist the chairperson to organize and coordinate all of the details of the luncheon.

Art/Music Parent Program

This program brings art and music to Jackson school.  Two specific days are designated throughout the year for every student to participate in an art or music appreciation curriculum.  Volunteers collaborate on choosing the theme for the two days, planning the activities and facilitating the day.

The Scholastic Book Fair is held every November during parent-teacher conferences with proceeds benefitting the Jackson PTA. The Book Fair Chairpersons coordinate volunteer scheduling and classroom scheduling, handle advertising and work several shifts at the Book Fair. Volunteers work a shift during the Book Fair.

Chess Club

Chess Club is held during lunch in the winter months and is one of our most popular clubs for 2nd-5th graders.

 

Cookie Exchange

The Cookie Exchange is where we gather homemade or store bought baked goods for all the Jackson staff.  The chairperson collects all of the donations and brings them to school on the day of the exchange.  Set-up and take-down is also required.

Crossing Guards

The crossing guards assist students in crossing the intersection at Swain and Van Buren in the mornings before school. The chairperson coordinates the volunteer schedule. 

 

 Directory

The directory is a benefit of your PTA membership and is distributed in the fall to PTA members. The chairperson prepares the directory that contains contact information for Jackson families and other pertinent information. Work on the directory is done during the first month or so of school.

 Eco Club

Help Jackson go Green! ECO Club raises awareness about the environment and encourages students to reduce, reuse and recycle. Meetings typically occur once per month before school starts on late arrival Wednesdays.  The ECO Club activities include International Walk to School Day, Walk on Wednesdays, and Earth Week events. Volunteers are needed to help with the ECO Club meetings and for other activities throughout the year.

 

 

 Field Day

Field Day is a day of fun and outside games for the entire school at the end of the school year. The Field Day Chairperson oversees the entire event including selecting the games, planning the day's schedule and coordinating the volunteers. Numerous volunteers are needed to assist with set up, running the games, walking around with the classes and clean up. A call for volunteers goes out a few weeks before Field Day.

Fun Lunch

 

In collaboration with the Jackson School student council, the PTA works to provide a fun lunch experience for the students.  Volunteers are needed to plan the event and during the lunch hour on the days of the Fun Lunch to set up and help with the festivities.

 

 Gardening Committee

This committee will work to ensure PTA Donated Landscaping is maintained during the school year.  Organization of Spring/Fall cleanups and intermittent weeding will likely occur to supplement the District’s general maintenance of the landscaping.  The Chairperson will organize the events and staff them with volunteers.

Ice Cream Social

The Ice Cream Social is held either right before school starts or on one of the first days (depending on District scheduling).  The chairpersons recruit volunteers and coordinates the ice cream treats. 

 

 

Jackson Boo Bash

A spooktacular party for Jackson students and families held in October. The Fall Fest Chairperson plans and coordinates the event. Volunteers assist with set up, concessions, games and clean up.

Jump Rope for Heart

For more than 30 years, the students at Jackson have jumped rope and raised money for the American Heart Association. The chairperson coordinates the event through the AHA. Volunteers are needed the day of the event to help everything run smoothly.

Kindergarten Welcome Committee

This committee is all about introducing Jackson School to incoming kindergartners.  The chairperson attends and speaks at the Kindergarten Welcome meeting in the spring, plans summer play dates for the incoming kindergartners and their families so they have the opportunity to meet some friendly faces before the start of school, and coordinates ordering and distribution of our Welcome to Jackson yard signs. 

Library Volunteers Coordinator

Volunteers ensure that the library run smoothly by helping students, shelving books and assisting with various other projects. The Library Volunteer Coordinator, with the Library staff, recruits and schedules volunteers throughout the year. Volunteers are needed to work a morning or afternoon shift once or twice a month. 

 

Membership

Members are the lifeblood of the PTA! Become a member and support all that we do for Jackson. The PTA Membership Chairperson coordinates the Membership drive in the fall, which Involves preparing a flier to go to all students, staffing a sign-up desk at the Welcome Back Coffee and tracking payments. You can do your part by joining the PTA.

Nominating Committee

The Nominating Committee helps find PTA members to head committee posts for the following school year. 

 

PTA Council Scholarship Representative

The District 205 PTA Council Scholarship Committee is comprised of the Scholarship Committee Chairperson(s) and one Scholarship Committee Member from each of the 13 schools in District 205.  The Jackson representative is responsible to present scholarship information at monthly Jackson PTA meetings, attend 1-2 meetings through the year, promote upcoming PTA scholarship fundraising events, attend PTA scholarship events, distribute Fannie May packets to students at Jackson, review scholarship applications and provide feedback. 

 
REACH Representative
 

REACH is the gifted student program for students in District 205. The chairperson attends the monthly REACH meeting with representatives from other schools and reports back to the Jackson PTA to keep them informed of programs and events.

 

Reflections

Reflections is an annual PTA statewide fine arts competition in the fall. The chairperson promotes the competition and coordinates Jackson's entries. The chairperson and a few volunteers selecting final entries at the school level.

Room Parent Coordinator

Room parents plan class parties and assist teachers as needed throughout the year. The Room Parent Coordinator recruits volunteers to serve as room parents and trains the volunteers. You can sign up to be a room parent in the fall at the Welcome Back Coffee. Room parents for each class will contact everyone in the class for help with parties and other activities.

Running Club

Running Club is a twice a week lunchtime club for third, fourth and fifth graders in the fall and spring. The chairperson coordinates the club. Volunteers are needed to cheer on students and monitor their progress

Science Olympiad

Science Olympiad is an evening program held in the late winter that allows students to participate in three different grade-level appropriate science activities. The chairperson works with teachers to implement and coordinate a variety of hands-on, fun scence projects. Numerous parent volunteers are needed to ensure the success of this event. A call for volunteers goes out a few weeks before the event.

School Board Representative

The Jackson School Board Representative attends the District 205 School Board meetings on the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month and then reports pertinent information and issues to the Jackson PTA.  

 

 

School Supplies

The Jackson PTA offers families the opportunity to buy school supplies each year in the Spring. The School Supply Chairperson organizes the annual school supply sale. Orders are taken in April/May and supplies are distributed in August before school begins.

SERG Representative

SERG is the Special Education Resource Group for students in District 205. The chairperson attends the monthly SERG meeting with representatives from other schools and reports back to the Jackson PTA to keep them informed of programs and events. The chairperson also helps coordinate SERG speakers and assists with the Summer Rec Open House. This entails mostly email and phone work.

Spiritwear

Show your Jackson Jaguar pride! Each fall, the Jackson PTA sells an assortment of Jackson Spiritwear. The chairperson organizes and runs the sale.

 

Summer Rec Open House

Sponsored by District 205, the Summer Rec Open House gives parents the opportunity to ‘one stop shop’ for summer recreational and educational programs for their children. The open house is held in February and provided at no charge. This is an excellent opportunity to view a wide variety of summer programs. The chairperson assists with the open house by attending a planning meeting in January, helping with set-up and working the 2-hour event.

 

Sunshine Committee

This tentative new committee will coordinate purchase of gifts for Jackson teachers/staff/families experiencing major life events such a as a birth, illness or death.  The committee will also coordinate the monthly updates of the Jackson PTA bulleting board. 

 

Teacher Appreciation

While we always appreciate our fabulous Jackson teachers, two specific events are planned as a way to say thanks. The Jackson PTA provides a meal to teachers and staff the evening of Parent/Teacher conferences in November.  Jackson PTA also coordinates Teacher Appreciation Week the first week in May. The week consists of a breakfast and a lunch for the staff along with other events. The Chairperson coordinates both events.  Volunteers are needed to help with the meals and other events held Conferences and TA week.

Welcome Back Coffee

The Welcome Back Coffee is held on the first day of school in the Multi Purpose Room. This event provides parents the chance to learn about all of the available volunteer opportunities and sign up to help. The chairperson coordinates the event, orders and prepares food and drinks, sets up the room and attends event. 

 

 

Win Win

The Win Win Program is a once a month fundraiser that was designed to help our community and our PTA.  The chairperson works on finding a local business to support our program.  The Jackson PTA members go and visit the establishment on the chosen date of the program and/or order during a particular time frame.  The establishment in turn donates a percentage of the net sales from Jackson PTA attendees.

 

Yearbook

Jackson families can purchase a yearbook that captures the memories of the school year. The Yearbook Chairpersons are responsible for taking photos for the yearbook, doing the layout, taking orders and distributing the books at the end of the school year.
