President's Message

Hello Jackson Families-

It is hard to believe this is our last PTA Blast for the school year!

We want to personally thank everyone who took the time out of their busy schedules to volunteer in any way over the school year. We’ve heard it before - Volunteering is a thankless job but we want you to know that you are appreciated. Thank you to our wonderful PTA Executive Board; Diane, Kelly, Valeria, Carey, Marla, Kristi, Andrea, Heidi, Amy and Betsy. All your help was very much appreciated. We’d also like to thank Mrs. Trendel for her help and support all year and to the Jackson teachers and staff. We couldn’t have done it without all of you.  Through your generosity and fundraising, we were able to gift $10,000 for books for classroom libraries and another $10,000 to buy classroom furniture, art supplies for Mrs Neigel and a gaga pit for the playground. Thank you again!

Congratulations to the PTA Executive Board for the 2018-2019 school year. Carey Murphy will be the new PTA President. Please email her if you have any questions or concerns. We wish her the best and know she will do a great job next year!

The list of next year's committee chairs and volunteers has been posted on the PTA website. Thank you to everyone that volunteered for the 2018-2019 school year!

Finally, we would like to send our congratulations to Juanita Glassi, our school nurse, who is retiring this year. Thank you for your many years of dedication and care to our children. Enjoy your retirement! And a fond farewell to all the families leaving Jackson at the end of this week. Some of you are moving on to Bryan and some of you are moving out of our area. We wish you well, wherever you may be, and please know that you will be missed.

Have a safe and fun filled summer!

Stacy & Kathy

It has come to our attention that the Spring Orchestra Concert is the same night. We are so sorry but it is too late to change the party date. We will do everything we can to make sure any orchestra students will be able to participate as much as possible before leaving for the concert.

Class T-shirts: If you ordered a class t-shirts they will go home with your student this Friday. Please have the kids wear them to the party and on the last day of school. We did order a couple extra so if you forgot to order just let us know.

Square 1 Art

Don’t forget, that throughout the year, you can order more of your child’s keepsakes — for special occasion holidays or those hard-to-buy-for family members — simply go tosquare1art.com/shop, enter the art access code from your catalog, and select the art and item wanted. Our school will benefit financially from orders all year long! Thanks again!

PTA Council Scholarship Winners

PTA Council was able to award 16 - $1,000 scholarships this year and believe that is a record. All the recipients were so grateful and great kids.  One student had an entire table of family members there to watch him receive the scholarship.

Attached is the list of recipients,  including the VFW scholarship recipient (That scholarship is for $3,000.  When the Elmhurst VFW chapter closed its doors they asked the PTA Council to hold the money that they had leftover and donated towards an annual scholarship.  PTA Council does not choose the recipient, but takes care of the presenting and funding for that scholarship.)

Congratulations to all the winners!

DuPage Back-To-School Fair For Low Income Families is August 1

The 28th annual Back to School Fair, held for DuPage County families living on low and reduced incomes, will be located at St. Francis High School in Wheaton on Wednesday, August 1, from 11 AM to 6 PM. This is an opportunity for families to meet with and learn about services provided by numerous agencies from DuPage County and the State of Illinois. Each K-12 student in attendance will receive free vision/dental screenings, plus free school supplies - even a free haircut, if desired.

This is meant to be a fun day for kids with balloon art, games and face painting. Books and novels will be given away, as well as coupons for free haircuts. The Fair, which is sponsored by Catholic Charities, the DuPage Regional Office of Education, DuPage Credit Union and SCARCE is a totally free event, but participants must bring proof of residency in DuPage County, identification for all family members and proof of family income. For additional information, see the flyer(s) posted on the Virtual Backpack page.

“Choose Kindness” and help a Jackson family

Jackson Community we are asking you to “Choose Kindness” and help a family that is in desperate need. As you may have heard our Jackson family suffered a loss 2 days before Christmas when Sophia (2nd grade) and Hannah (4th grade) lost their father unexpectedly. Corinne, their mom, is now struggling to make ends meet and we would like to help now. No donation amount is too small. Thank you for generosity!

A meal train is also set up for the family:
